From Map to Story: Publishing Your Analysis
This tutorial packages a finished analysis into something stakeholders can read: a scroll-driven story, a print-ready layout, and a shareable HTML export. It uses the Projects tools.
1. Finish the map first
A story is only as good as its base map. Style every layer, set the basemap, and save the project — the publishing tools below reference the live project state, not a snapshot.
2. Author the narrative
- Run Projects → Scroll-Driven Story Authoring and write one section per finding: the map pans and zooms while the reader scrolls.
- Use Projects → Chapter Layer Effects to fade layers in and out between chapters, so each section shows exactly the evidence it talks about.
- For a guided-tour variant, Projects → Story Map… walks the viewer stop by stop.
3. Add the furniture
- Projects → Title Block Info Panel puts the project title, author, and date on the map.
- Projects → Custom Legends and Colorbars makes every styled layer self-explanatory.
4. Print and multi-page output
- Projects → Print Layout… composes the key view with title, legend, and scale.
- Projects → Atlas Map Series generates one page per feature — one page per zone, site, or basin — from a single layout.
- Projects → PDF Handout Export bundles the layout set into a PDF for the meeting.
5. Publish
- Projects → Export As HTML… produces a self-contained interactive viewer — no server, no accounts.
Next steps
- Save As Template… turns this project’s layout and structure into the starting point for the next analysis.
- Story Import and Export moves the narrative between projects when the same story needs updated data.
